Direct Download

Install MagicInk manually.

Until the Chrome Web Store listing is ready, you can download the current build directly from this website and load it into Chrome or Microsoft Edge.

Current version

MagicInk v0.4.1

Download the ZIP, extract it, then load the extracted MagicInk folder as an unpacked extension.

Chrome

Install in Google Chrome

1

Download the ZIP

Use the download button above and save MagicInk-v0.4.1.zip to your computer.

2

Extract the ZIP

Right-click the downloaded ZIP and choose Extract All. Keep the extracted MagicInk folder somewhere permanent. Do not load the ZIP itself.

3

Open Chrome Extensions

Type chrome://extensions in the address bar and press Enter.

4

Turn on Developer mode

Enable the Developer mode switch near the top-right corner of the Extensions page.

5

Choose Load unpacked

Click Load unpacked, then select the extracted MagicInk folder that contains manifest.json.

6

Pin MagicInk

Open Chrome's Extensions menu and pin MagicInk if you want its icon visible in your toolbar.

7

Refresh open webpages

Refresh any webpage that was already open before installation so MagicInk's page script can load.

Microsoft Edge

Install in Microsoft Edge

1

Download and extract

Download the MagicInk ZIP and extract it to a permanent folder on your computer.

2

Open Edge Extensions

Type edge://extensions in the address bar and press Enter.

3

Enable Developer mode

Turn on Developer mode on the Extensions page.

4

Load unpacked

Choose Load unpacked and select the extracted MagicInk folder containing manifest.json.

5

Refresh your tabs

Refresh any already-open webpages before testing highlighting or Alt + highlight.

Important: Manually installed unpacked extensions are development-style installations. Keep the extracted MagicInk folder in place. If you move or delete that folder, the browser may no longer be able to load the extension correctly.
Future Chrome Web Store release: Once MagicInk is published in the Chrome Web Store, most users will be able to install and update it through the normal store flow instead of using Developer mode.
